The MF-102 Ring Modulator is an award-winning effect designed by Bob Moog that features an analog ring modulator with a built-in carrier oscillator and LFO. When used with bass, guitar, keyboards, samples, and recorded tracks, the MF-102 is subtle and works great. It is free from digital influence.

The MF-102 Ring Modulator is the direct successor to the original Mogg Modular Synthesizer. It features three fully modular functions: a ring modulator, a voltage-controlled carrier oscillator, and a voltage-controlled two-waveform LFO. It can process any line level or instrument level.

The ring modulator generates the sum and difference of different frequencies between the audio input and the carrier oscillator, and the ring modulator LFO can be used to adjust the carrier frequency.The Moogerfooger ring modulator can be used for everything from delicate tremolo to harmonic-rich distortion, gong-like sounds, and bombastic sounds. It can be used in both subtle and outrageous ways.

The Moogerfooger ring modulator has four control parameters: Mix knob, Frequency knob, LFO Rate knob, and LFO Amount knob. All parameters can be controlled with an expression pedal or external CV, as well as with the easy-to-use knobs. Panel switches allow selection of the LFO waveform and carrier frequency range. 1/4″ jacks for audio in/out, pedal input, and carrier in/out are provided. A sturdy yet smooth-operating bypass switch can be used either on the table top or on the floor for foot operation.

If the carrier oscillator of a ring modulator produces a 500 Hz sine wave and the input signal is a 100 Hz sine wave, the output waveform of the ring modulator will be complex. You will hear two pitches, 400Hz and 600Hz, and you will not hear the original input or the carrier oscillator.
